Climate-Smart Forestry Case Study: Germany

چکیده
Abstract Forests cover approximately one-third of Germany’s territory. They are among the most productive forests in Europe and a position to contribute considerably climate change mitigation. Germany has set national targets for mitigation via measures such as conversion towards mixed climate-adapted forests; stronger control on sustainability imported solid biofuels; an increase forest area; reduction emissions related soils, especially drained peatlands; land take less than 30 ha day −1 . Climate is already exerting severe economic, environmental social impacts German forest-based sector, this trend likely continue intensify future. The key question future is: how best optimise potential while at same time adapting deal with ongoing change. This situation calls very careful balancing strategies holistic approach, which CSF framework can provide. Our simulation indicated that opportunity costs using high-valued species, Norway spruce, purposes (i.e. by in-situ accumulation carbon) produces high costs, species value, European beech, would be better suited purpose. In order follow systematic approach combining adaptation, we propose generic adaptation takes into account cost efficiency all measures, includes suggesting efficient ways Germany. Current emerging bioeconomy products also offer significant substitution carbon storage.

Climate change impacts on forestry.
Changing temperature and precipitation pattern and increasing concentrations of atmospheric CO(2) are likely to drive significant modifications in natural and modified forests. Our review is focused on recent publications that discuss the changes in commercial forestry, excluding the ecosystem functions of forests and nontimber forest products. We concentrate on potential direct and indirect im...

Joint Implementation (JI) was a concept developed by the Conference of Parties (CoP) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to help reduce the level of greenhouse gases, particularly CO2, in the global atmosphere. In JI projects, an organisation in a developed country invests in an organisation in a less developed country with the aim of reducing atmospheric greenhouse gases....
متن کاملAdaptation to Climate Change in Swedish Forestry
Adaptation to climate change in forestry has become a growing concern, in part due to the impact of storms and other events that have raised the awareness of such risks amongst forest owners. Sweden is one of Europe’s most densely-forested countries, with this sector playing a major role economically. However adaptation has, to a large extent, been limited to the provision of recommendations to...
